Fire service respond to a residential fire in Middleton

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) responded to a house fire in Middleton during the early hours of Friday morning.

The house fire, reported at approximately 1:05 AM on Friday morning, rapidly spread to adjacent houses and fences, resulting in substantial damage to surrounding properties.


The fire reached a garden shed on the property, causing a gas cylinder to explode and damaging nearby windows on Hopwood Road. A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service ( GMFRS ) told Manchester Today "At 1.05am on Friday (May 23) four fire engines from Rochdale, Hollins, Bury and Whitefield fire stations were called to a fire involving a large summer house on Penrose Walk, Middleton.

 

"The fire caused some damage to surrounding properties with firefighters wearing breathing apparatus using hose reels and jets to extinguish the fire. Crews remained in attendance for around give and a half hours."

The cause of the blaze is currently unknown, but crime scene investigators, along with dogs, are presently at the scene examining the debris.

It is believed that no injuries occurred during the fire.
