Crews from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service have successfully extinguished the blaze, though the damage left behind is severe. The historic building has suffered extensive structural destruction, with large sections left unsafe. The owners and the middleton community are hoping that the Engine room of the mill hasn't been touche dby the fire. In the aftermath of the fire, discussions have already begun regarding the next steps for the site. Representatives from D Hughes Demolition and Excavation were present at Lodge Mill today, working alongside fire crews to assess the structure. It has been confirmed that plans are being explored to remove only the top storey of the building, potentially allowing the remainder of the structure to be preserved rather than fully demolished. This approach could offer a pathway toward rebuilding while retaining part of the mill’s historic presence. D Hughes Demolition and Excavation have now officially been tasked with carrying out the demolition works to the upper level of Lodge Mill. Manchester Today spoke directly with the Lodge owner, Martin, who, despite the devastating circumstances, remains remarkably positive about the future. Martin expressed his gratitude to the Middleton community, thanking residents and local businesses for their overwhelming support during what has been an incredibly difficult time. He told Manchester Today that he is determined to move forward and remains hopeful for the Lodge’s grand opening, showing resilience in the face of adversity.
